I’ve always wanted to be a writer and have been writing since I first discovered Roald Dahl when I was ten years old. Matilda is still one of my favourite books and I have a dog eared copy here at home somewhere. I went to Trinity College in Carmarthen to do a BA in English and Creative Writing and then followed that with an MA in Creative Writing. I have had a few things published locally, most recently ‘If his Boots Could Talk’ a poem based on my Grandfather’s experience of the war, in the Western Telegraph (Nov 2010) and 3 theatre reviews for the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven on www.theatrewales.co.uk ( Who’s Afraid of Rachel Roberts– April 2012/ The maids – June 2012 A Midsummer Night’s Dream – October 2012).
In May 2014 I began some freelance work including writing for my local paper, The Pembrokeshire Herald. I have written articles for their Arts and Entertainments and community news section. I regularly write reviews for Arts Scene in Wales and Mslexia online forum and have recently begun tutoring English on a freelance basis. I am always looking for a new challenge.
I completed a mentoring scheme with Cinnamon Press between 2013 and 2015. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working with an editor and learnt a lot about preparing my debut novel for the publishing market. They called ‘The Cost’ a ‘commercial’ novel which would appeal to many Publishers and Agents’. I am currently seeking representation for my work.
I have had many jobs withinn retail, telecommunications and the tourism industry, but long for the day when I can write for a living. It is the one thing I am truly passionate about and that I long to do. I would describe my writing as dark, mysterious and suspenseful, with a strong focus on character and human relationships. Some of my favourite authors are Jodi Picoult, Mark Haddon, Anita Shreve, Dorothy Koomson, Audrey Niffenegger and Stephenie Meyer.
I currently work in my local Theatre, a job which I love as I am surrounded by Creative and innovative people. I am constantly feeling inspired by the work that we do and my varied hours enable me to continue with my writing and freelance work.
In my spare time I like to read, watch films and spend time with friends and family. I also enjoy going for long walks in the countryside and travelling to other countries. I’m lucky to have visited most of Europe but Italy, America and Norway are still on my list!
I was born and brought up in Pembrokeshire and have lived here for 34 years. I love the inspiration of the country and the sea and have strong roots to family and friends in Wales.
By creating this website I hope to be able to show people what I’m about and to showcase my work to the public. And if a publisher or Agent happens to look my way and like what they see, even better!!
